Last Noel, we decided to take family bonding a step further and venture out of our home. We all piled into the car and drove on down to Alexandria, Virginia. Now, I’ve never been to Virginia before and I’m not going to lie and say that it was the destination of my choice, but after having been there I’ve totally changed my mind. Alexandria is an adorable, colonial little town. It’s right between being a Northern or Southern state, and while it is so close to New York, it’s got some southern charm.
We stayed at the Kimpton Hotel. Have you ever been to a Kimpton?? They’re adorable. They’re known for their unique decor, and the one in Alexandria could not have been more Christmassy! The walls are a beautiful deep turquoise, and the sofas are lovely orange, reds, and blues. A giant Christmas tree adorned the lobby, and the holiday spirit filled the air.
In the mornings, the Kimpton provides breakfast snacks and drinks. Giant stainless steel carafes are lugged into the main hall, full of hot coffee and rich chocolat chaud.
Guests came here on Christmas to relax! The fireplace is always going, and the suites are decorated much like the lobby. The customer service is exceptional, and the best part?? The 5PM happy hour downstairs. Red and white wine, along with spiked bourbon apple cider. Can you say Joyeux Noel?
We all settled in nicely- especially moi.
While the Kimpton hotel does not have a spa itself, a few blocks over houses it’s sister hotel and it’s respective spa- The Lorien. here we steamed, massaged, and showered. I also made a new friend. Not as cute as my Beluga, but he’ll do.
Alexandria is a 15 minute drive from Washington DC, where we all saw the Nutcracker Christmas Eve, and then sped on over to The St. Regis’ Decanter for dinner and desserts. The St. Regis gives off a lovely view of the White House!
Followed by an (apparently tres rigolo) daddy joke, and a rousing game of chess. P.S that chess set is crystal pieces on a beveled mirror board. Was so inspired by how lovely it was, that I bought one for my sister as a housewarming gift!
Finally it was time to sleep, but not before tricking the parents into a nightcap across the street, and getting the hotel staff to sneak presents into their suite while I ran around like a mad woman!
Un succes enorme! Here’s hoping NEXT Noel will be even more splendide than the last!
